En este nivel C1, ya dominas los tiempos verbales básicos, pero para alcanzar la fluidez necesaria en el examen de Cambridge, debemos perfeccionar los aspectos continuos perfectos. Estos tiempos se utilizan para enfatizar la duración de una acción que comenzó en el pasado y tiene una conexión directa con el presente, ya sea porque continúa o porque sus efectos son evidentos ahora. La clave es entender la diferencia entre el resultado (Perfect) y el proceso (Continuous).
El Present Perfect Continuous (have/has been + -ing) se usa para acciones que han estado ocurriendo ininterrumpidamente hasta el momento actual. Por ejemplo, para hablar de una tendencia generacional que empezó hace años y sigue vigente. El Past Perfect Continuous (had been + -ing) se utiliza para establecer el contexto de una situación pasada, indicando que una acción estuvo progresando hasta que otra acción la interrumpió o hasta un punto específico en el pasado.
Un error muy común entre los hispanohablantes es intentar traducir literalmente estructuras como "Llevo viviendo aquí diez años" como "I have living here...". En inglés, la estructura requiere obligatoriamente el verbo to be en participio (been). Recuerda: para expresar "llevar [tiempo] haciendo algo", siempre usaremos la estructura de los tiempos perfectos continuos.
Otro punto crítico es el uso de los stative verbs (verbos de estado como know, believe, want, belong). Estos verbos no suelen utilizarse en formas continuas. No decimos "I have been knowing him for years", sino "I have known him for years". En el contexto de conflictos generacionales, esto es vital para distinguir entre acciones dinámicas (como protestar o estudiar) y estados mentales (como entender o comprender).
