Unit 27: Renewable Energy & Smart Grids
Writing Task: The Proposal
Task (Cambridge C1 Advanced, Part 2 style)
Question: You work for a local municipal council. The council is considering transitioning the city's energy infrastructure to a "Smart Grid" system powered by renewable sources. You have been asked to write a proposal to the City Council outlining the potential benefits of this transition and addressing potential drawbacks, such as initial costs and technical implementation.
Write your proposal.
Evita contracciones (use it is instead of it's) y lenguaje coloquial.
No te limites a and o but.
- Time management: Dedica unos 40 minutos a esta tarea.

Proposal for the Implementation of a Smart Grid System
Introduction The purpose of this proposal is to outline the feasibility of transitioning our city to a smart grid powered by renewable energy sources. This document evaluates the potential benefits and the logistical challenges involved in such an undertaking.
Potential Benefits The primary advantage of implementing a smart grid would be the significant reduction in carbon emissions. By integrating solar and wind energy into a digitalised network, the city could achieve greater energy efficiency. Furthermore, smart technology allows for real-time monitoring, which would minimise energy waste and reduce long-term operational costs.
Challenges and Mitigations It must be acknowledged that the initial capital investment required for such a transition would be substantial. There are also concerns regarding the technical complexity of upgrading existing infrastructure. However, these costs could be mitigated through government subsidies and a phased implementation strategy, which would allow the council to spread the financial burden over several years.
Conclusion and Recommendations In conclusion, while the transition presents significant financial and technical hurdles, the long-term environmental and economic advantages are compelling. It is highly recommended that the council initiates a pilot programme in one district to test the system's viability. Should this be successful, a full-scale rollout could follow.
Taking everything into account, moving towards a smart, renewable grid is a vital step towards a sustainable future for our city.
Marking checklist
¿Has demostrado control de estructuras gramaticales complejas (condicionales, voz pasiva, etc.)?
