Grammar Focus
Detailed explanation, examples and controlled practice for the unit grammar point.
Lesson objectives
- Recognise and control Indirect questions and embedded clauses (I wonder whether…).
- Notice common errors Spanish-speaking learners make at advanced level.
- Apply the structure in exam-style sentences related to renewable energy & smart grids.
Por ejemplo, para pasar de "Is the solar panel efficient?" a una forma indirecta, diríamos: "I wonder whether the solar panel is efficient."
Finalmente, recuerda que en las preguntas indirectas no se utiliza el signo de interrogación si la frase introductoria es una afirmación (ej. I wonder...). El signo de interrogación solo se mantiene si la frase introductoria es una pregunta real (ej. Could you tell me...?).

| Yes/No Question | Does the grid use AI? | I am not sure if/whether the grid uses AI. | Use if/whether + Subject + Verb |
| Modal/Auxiliary | How much will it cost? | Could you tell me how much it will cost? | Remove auxiliary do/does/did |

- Could you explain how the photovoltaic cells convert sunlight into electricity? (¿Podría explicar cómo las células fotovoltaicas convierten la luz solar en electricidad?).
- Scientists are investigating whether hydrogen fuel is a viable alternative. (Los científicos están investigando si el hidrógeno es una alternativa viable).
- I was not sure how much energy the wind turbines would produce last night. (No estaba seguro de cuánta energía producirían los aerogeneradores anoche).
- We need to find out if the current infrastructure supports renewable integration. (Necesitamos averiguar si la infraestructura actual permite la integración de renovables).
