Active listening strategies (C1)

1. Listen for signposting: No intentes entender cada palabra; busca conectores (e.g., however, furthermore, conversely) para identificar cuándo el hablante cambia de idea o introduce un contraargumento.
2. Predictive listening: Antes de que termine una frase, intenta predecir el final basándote en el contexto. Esto entrena tu cerebro para procesar el lenguaje a la velocidad del habla natural.
3. Focus on "Chunks": En lugar de palabras sueltas, intenta captar "chunks" (grupos de palabras). Por ejemplo, no escuches pave + the + way, escucha la unidad completa pave the way.
4. Note-taking by concept: No escribas transcripciones. Divide tu papel en dos columnas: "Main Ideas" (Ideas principales) y "Nuances/Opinions" (Matices o opiniones del hablante).
5. Identify speaker attitude: En el C1, el significado suele estar en la entonación. Presta atención a si el hablante es irónico, escéptico o entusiasta, incluso si no entiende el 100% del vocabulario.
6. Shadowing: Si escuchas una frase que te parece especialmente bien construida, pausa el audio e intenta repetirla imitando exactamente la entonación y el ritmo del hablante.

Follow-up task

Task: The Critical Review

1. Vocabulary Extraction: While listening, write down 5 new expressions or collocations. Look up their meaning and write one original sentence for each that relates to your own life or opinions.
2. Summary Synthesis: Write a 150-word summary of the episode. You must use at least 3 of the "key phrases" you listened to in the podcast to practice natural integration.
3. Oral Argumentation: Record a 2-minute voice note on your phone. In this recording, you must present a counter-argument to the main point made in the podcast. (e.g., "While the speaker argues that VR will replace reality, I would contend that..."). Listen to your own recording to check for fluency and pronunciation.
