Speaking — describe & compare

Model answer

🔊

At first glance, the two images present a striking contrast between two vastly different natural environments. On the left-hand side, we see a lush, vibrant tropical rainforest. The scene is characterised by dense, verdant vegetation and a clear waterfall, suggesting a high level of humidity and a thriving ecosystem. In stark contrast, the right-hand image depicts a desolate, arid desert. The ground is parched and cracked, with heat haze shimmering over the orange earth, conveying a sense of extreme drought and lifelessness.

While the left-hand image depicts a flourishing ecosystem, the right one highlights the harshness of geological extremes. It is highly probable that the landscape on the left is shaped by consistent, heavy rainfall and tectonic stability, whereas the desert might be the result of prolonged aridification or shifting geological plates. One could argue that these images represent the duality of nature: the life-giving power of water versus the destructive potential of heat and drought. Ultimately, the juxtaposition of these two environments highlights how climate and geological processes can create either a paradise or a wasteland.
