Task (Cambridge C1 Advanced, Part 2 style)
Topic: Remote Work & the Future of Offices
Task: You work for a large international company that has recently allowed all employees to work from home permanently. However, some senior managers believe that the lack of a physical office is damaging company culture and productivity.
Write a proposal to the Board of Directors. In your proposal, you should: * Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of permanent remote work. * Suggest how the company can maintain a strong sense of community without a permanent office. * Recommend whether the company should lease a smaller, flexible co-working space instead of a traditional office.
Write your proposal in 220-260 words.
Tips (en español)
- Structure: Para un proposal, utiliza subtítulos claros (e.g., Introduction, Evaluation of Remote Work, Recommendations).
En lugar de "Remote work is bad", usa "Remote work may lead to..." o "It could be argued that...".

Proposal: Re-evaluating Office Presence in the Post-Pandemic Era
Introduction The purpose of this proposal is to evaluate the current remote work model and suggest a sustainable strategy for the company’s future. Following the transition to permanent remote work, it is essential to address concerns regarding company culture and productivity.
Evaluation of Remote Work Remote work has undoubtedly offered increased flexibility and reduced overhead costs. However, it could be argued that the lack of face-to-face interaction has weakened professional bonds and hindered spontaneous collaboration. While productivity remains high, the erosion of company culture is a significant risk that must be addressed to prevent employee isolation.
Proposed Solutions for Community Building To maintain a sense of community, it is suggested that the company implements mandatory monthly "collaboration days." These would be dedicated to team-building activities and strategic meetings. Furthermore, adopting digital social platforms could help bridge the gap between remote staff, ensuring that interpersonal connections are not entirely lost.
Recommendations regarding Office Space Rather than returning to a traditional, large-scale office, I recommend that the company leases a smaller, flexible co-working space. This would provide a professional environment for occasional meetings and collaborative tasks without the unnecessary expense of a permanent headquarters. Such a "hybrid hub" would offer the perfect balance between flexibility and human connection.
Conclusion In conclusion, while remote work offers benefits, a hybrid approach is necessary to sustain company culture. By investing in flexible workspaces and structured social interaction, the company can ensure long-term engagement and productivity.
