En esta unidad, aprenderás a procesar debates complejos sobre ética y política, preparándote para la comprensión auditiva de alto nivel del examen de Cambridge.

Active listening strategies (C1)

1. Predictive Listening: Antes de darle al play, lee el título y la descripción. Intenta predecir qué vocabulario técnico o expresiones podrían aparecer para preparar tu cerebro.
2. Note-taking by Structure: No intentes escribir cada palabra. Divide tu cuaderno en tres columnas: Main Argument, Supporting Evidence, y New Vocabulary.
3. Shadowing for Prosody: Si escuchas una frase que suena especialmente natural o elegante, pausa el audio y repítela imitando exactamente la entonación y el ritmo del hablante.
4. Focus on Signposting: Presta especial atención a los conectores (however, nonetheless, furthermore, conversely). Estos son los "mapas" que te indican hacia dónde va el argumento.
5. Listen for Nuance: En C1, el significado no siempre es literal. Escucha el tono: ¿el hablante es sarcástico, escéptico o está siendo cauteloso? Esto es clave para entender la intención.
6. Selective Re-listening: Si pierdes un segmento, no vuelvas atrás inmediatamente. Termina el bloque de audio y luego vuelve para ver si el contexto te ayuda a deducir lo que no entendiste.

Follow-up task

Task: The Critical Summary

1. Vocabulary Extraction: After listening, select 5 new phrases or collocations you heard. Write a definition in English for each and use them in a new sentence related to a different topic.
2. Synthesised Note-taking: Write a 150-word summary of the podcast. You must use at least three of the "key phrases" you listened to during the episode.
3. Oral Argument (Voice Note): Record a 2-minute voice note on your phone. In this recording, you must:
   • State your opinion on the topic discussed.
   • Use "counter-argument" language (e.g., "While it is often argued that..., one must consider...").
   • Evaluate whether the speaker's argument was persuasive or flawed.
