Unit 65: Global Pandemics, Vaccines & Preparedness
Task (Cambridge C1 Advanced, Part 2)
Topic: Global Health Security
Your lecturer has asked you to write a report regarding the lessons learned from recent global health crises. You should address the following points: * The effectiveness of international cooperation in vaccine distribution. * The importance of investing in pandemic preparedness. * Suggestions for improving global response strategies for future threats.
Write your report. You must use between 220-260 words.
Usa lenguaje cauteloso (it is widely believed that, could potentially lead to) para mostrar sofisticación académica.

Report on Global Pandemic Preparedness and Response Strategies
Introduction The aim of this report is to evaluate the lessons learned from recent global health crises, specifically focusing on vaccine distribution and the necessity of future preparedness.
Vaccine Distribution and International Cooperation Regarding the distribution of vaccines, it was observed that while scientific innovation was unprecedented, international cooperation remained inconsistent. Although many nations successfully implemented vaccination programmes, a significant disparity emerged between high-income and developing countries. It is widely argued that this "vaccine nationalism" hindered the global effort to suppress viral transmission. Consequently, the lack of a unified distribution framework highlighted a critical weakness in current international health governance.
The Importance of Preparedness Furthermore, the recent crises underscored that reactive measures are insufficient. Investing in pandemic preparedness—such as robust surveillance systems and scalable manufacturing facilities—is not merely a health necessity but a global security requirement. Failure to invest in proactive measures leads to disproportionate economic and social disruption.
Recommendations In light of the aforementioned issues, the following actions are recommended: 1. Strengthen Global Frameworks: International bodies should establish more equitable protocols for resource sharing to prevent future disparities. 2. Increase Funding for Research: Governments must commit to sustained funding for infectious disease research to ensure rapid response capabilities.
Conclusion To conclude, while recent events demonstrated scientific capability, they also exposed systemic vulnerabilities. By addressing inequality and prioritising proactive investment, the global community can better navigate future biological threats.

Marking checklist
- Content: Has the writer addressed all three bullet points from the task? Is the information relevant and sufficient to satisfy the reader?
- Communicative Achievement: Is the tone appropriately formal for a report? Does the writer use "hedging" and professional language to convey complex ideas?
- Organisation: Are there clear headings? Does the report follow a logical progression from introduction to recommendations? Are cohesive devices used effectively?
- Language: Is there a wide range of advanced vocabulary and grammatical structures? Are there errors in spelling or punctuation that impede communication?
